Recently, Steve Cohen, an American billionaire hedge fund manager, has purchased the New York Mets after the deal was approved by the MLB commissioner, the MLB owners, and the New York mayor. For Mets fans, the ownership of Steve Cohen represents a new era of opportunity and potential dominance and championships to come. Or it could mean another era of mediocrity and frustration after the Mets reached the World Series during the 2015 season. The Mets team has one of the largest payrolls out of all of the MLB teams and has significant market power (since it is in New York), so seeing what the team accomplishes during the 2020 offseason will be quite intriguing. For me, I would want to see the New York Mets build their pitching significantly so that the Mets are a threat to both the offense and the defense. During the 2020 season, the Mets were ranked 5th in offense WAR: leading the offense were stars Michael Confronto and Dominic Smith. However, the Mets ranked only 15th in pitching: 13th in starting pitching and 22nd in relief pitching. Anchored by superstar Jacob DeGrome, the pitching desperately needs help if the New York Mets want to regain the glory of its 2015 days.
