Bryce Harper has established himself as one of the biggest stars between playing the Phillies and the Nationals, known for being one of the more emotional players in the MLB. During his time with Philadelphia and the Nationals, we all know the insane 2016 MVP season that Bryce Harper had and the exceptional 2017 season that he had in the Nationals again. Well, in the 2020 season, Bryce Harper once again delivered another great caliber season like those mentioned in the previous season, posting great advanced numbers and even better-expected metrics that could really propel Bryce Harper into another great tenure with the Phillies.
In the 2020 MLB season, Bryce Harper posted a 148 DRC+ and a 151 wRC+, both exceptionally phenomenal. However, with bigger stars such as Freddie Freeman and Fernando Tatis Jr, and the fact that Phillies missed the playoffs this season, I don't think that the Phillies got as much attention as other big teams and starts such as the Braves and the Padres. Not saying that Bryce Harper did not get any coverage and recognition, but comparably less than that of other players such as those mentioned above. Bryce Harper still maintains his strong BB%; in fact, he posted his best BB% in his entire career at 20.1% and a career-low K% at 17.6%.
But the even more crazy thing is that despite these numbers, Bryce Harper is underperforming to expected statistics.
Here is a picture that showcases what I just said previously.

Just to put this number in perspective, Freddie Freeman has an xwOBA of .441, and he is the undeniable MVP of this season (at least for the NL). Thinking that Bryce Harper got unlucky this season (or maybe did not get enough playing time for us to truly appreciate his skills this season) makes me so amazed at just how good Bryce Harper is this season. He looks like he is back into tip-top shape.
